Face to Face with Isack

Hello. Welcome to Face to Face with Isack Nyasilu. This is a special section where I will be doing interviews with different people in my community. I will be talking with people in the street, at school, in government offices, in churches, at NGO’s, and at youth clubs. Today I want to introduce you to Ecolife Conservation, a Roots & Shoots club in Tabora Region, Tanzania. When I got back from The Jane Goodall Global Youth Summit that took place in Orlando, Florida (US), my mission was to make sure that I’m sharing what I learned in Florida with other Roots & Shoots members and other people in my community. I came to Tabora to study my Advanced Level Education. When I got to Tabora, I couldn’t find a Roots & Shoots club. So I decided to establish a Roots & Shoots club myself. The club that I established is the Ecolife Roots & Shoots club. The following interview took place with members from the club.

Isack
Hello, how are you guys?

Ecolife
We are fine Isack.

Edwin
What about you school activities? What about pre mock exam?

Isack
Thanks Edwin thing are going well we finished pre mock now we are waiting for Mock but I miss you guys. What about your work?

Remmy
We are doing well too Isack. Now we established a tree farm that we will use to educate people to conserve the environment in Tabora Region. Now we have six acres in a village 12 kilometers from Tabora town.

Isack
Wow thanks guys! I’m proud of you. You’re the best.

Enock
Thanks Isack for your advice and help.

Isack
Good. Let as say thanks to Jane Goodall because she is the founder of this Program. So guys, what is your future plan in this Ecolife Roots & Shoots club?

Laurent
Isack we want to make changes in Tabora. We have a plan to educate people about the best way of conserving the environment by protecting the habitat. We want to educate people about the relationship between people and the environment. That is why we call it Ecolife Conservation Roots & Shoots club. We hope if we educate people about the ecosystem between environment and humans, they will take care of Tabora and conserving the environment will be possible.

Isack
Super. I like it and I’m proud of you. Ok how can you manage to change this? How will people understand your plans and see the benefit to themselves?

Enock
Isack we know that this is difficult, but we have some plans that will help us to make sure that people will understand. We want to talk with people about the importance of forests for their future, especially economically. Forests are sources of rainfall. Also we want to start a bee keeping program that will help people make money. In that case, we will avoid bush fires because people won’t want to burn the forests which will be the source for their bee keeping business.

Edwin
Isack, education is the only way to help people make changes. We see how you have been using the movie making program to educate people. I think this will be a best way to educate people. Can you help us make public service announcements so that we, too, can educate people?

Isack
Wow, thanks guys. I will help you. But, I think I’m not supposed to just give you a fish because tomorrow you will come and ask me another fish. I think I have to teach you how to get fish. I will teach you how to make public service announcements and other movies so that you can create them even when I will be not with you. Guys can you tell me about any benefits you have noticed from Roots & Shoots since you first joined it?

Laurent
I think even yourself you know the benefits of Roots & Shoots because you’re the one who introduced it! But on our side, our minds have changed a lot. Now we are thinking about how we can protect nature. Also we are very proud to be a part of the Jane Goodall family. We have sent a request to become a registered Roots & Shoots club.

Isack
The Western Zonal Manager is a good person to sent that to. He will answer you immediately. I hope you will be registered! How do you feel to be a first group to get interviewed on Face to Face with Isack?

Edwin
Thanks Isack. You have been our friend for a long time. You have given us good advice about many things. At first, wee didn’t know any thing about R&S but now we are doing well. So to be the first on this Face to Face with Isack is another chance for us to talk to the world about what we are doing. So we are very happy to be the first on this session. We welcome you any time and any day if you want to talk with us. We hope you will come again.

Isack
Thanks. I’m so happy to meet again with you guys. I hope you will keep educating people about the Jane Goodall Institute’s Roots & Shoots Program because everyone should have the chance and opportunity to make changes. Don’t worry, I will teach you to make movies in September when I finish making movies about the songs they sing at Furaha (color blind school). I want to tell you that to make changes is not easy, but if we cooperate, nothing is impossible. I’m proud to see how much you’ve learned so far. Now I know you will be a good ambassadors of Jane Goodall.
